Lecture Series + Workshops + Virtual Gathering

SPDP 2021 attempts to answer some of today’s toughest questions: How might we design for the future given the current crises here and beyond? What can we do as Filipino designers? How can our practices be sustainable for ourselves and the world we live in?

Attendees will go through a two-day hybrid creative experience, featuring lectures from our expert panel, workshops, and a virtual gathering on Discord and Gather.Town.

Theme

The past few years have been a reckoning for us all. The pandemic and the looming threat of the climate crisis have laid bare the gaping holes in the world that we’ve built. We need to realize that solving the problems of today need total and longterm solutions.

Our hypothesis: We need to shift towards interventions and policies which are not only sustainable, but regenerative. We cannot look at issues as if they were isolated, but to look at how they operate in a system. As designers, we have the opportunity to work towards enriching our environment and preserving the integrity of nature. That is, to help shape a future that is livable for all.

Social Problems are Design Problems 2021

  1. SPDP or Social Problems are Design Problems is a virtual event that examines both current and emerging issues through a design lens. SPDP brings together creators and advocates who strive to affect positive change in their respective communities.

SPDP first launched last year. Watch the full SPDP 2020 event for free on Youtube.

  2. The theme for this year’s SPDP is “Regeneration through Circular Design Strategies.” The talk will focus on three things:

    1. Designing long term — The inevitability of the climate and inequality crisis both here and abroad require designers to start thinking of solutions with longevity. Sustainability must be the new normal and our baseline.
    2. Designing inclusive — We need to shift towards designing in systems. We cannot look at issues as isolated from each other, but foster how designed interventions fit in their ecosystems.
    3. Designing for growth — Designers have the opportunity to work towards enriching the environment as well as preserving the integrity of nature. Designers can use their abilities to positively impact their communities, environment, and industries in the long-run.
  3. Every SPDP ticket costs P850 and entitles attendees complete access to our two-day event. This includes:

    1. Day 1: Lecture Series via Zoom (requires Zoom account)
    2. Day 2: Workshop via Zoom and Miro (choice of one workshop)
    3. Access to our exclusive Discord (requires Discord account) community and Gather Town (web-based app, no account necessary) virtual event space
    4. Participation in all giveaways and micro-events via Gather Town
    5. Exclusive discounts and more from our partners
  4. Unfortunately, we do not offer one-day passes at this time.

  5. That is perfectly fine! All major talks and events take place on Zoom, however we highly encourage participation on other social platforms to make the most of the experience.

  6. Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  7. Yes, we will be providing post-event recap videos of our Lecture Series and Workshops that will can be accessed via private link.
